Optical Stocks Fell on Funding Cost, Not Orders: TSMC Raised Growth to 44%, and the Funding Bottleneck Won't Hit Shipments Until 2027 Capex Guides | 2026 W42 Industry Review

Our Oct 12 piece on Shanghai/Shenzhen optical chip limit-downs was about the supply side. This week every new fact came from the funding side.
First, Broadcom CEO Hock Tan said in Singapore on Oct 12 that AI investment has a "casino" feel and that access to capital may limit AI more than chip supply. Lumentum fell 9.8% that day to close at $995.41; Ciena fell about 10% and Coherent about 7%.
Second, on Oct 14 CoreWeave's 2032 bonds touched a 15% yield and the stock fell 15.5%; Oracle fell 8.83%. Optical names dropped again: in Taiwan, LandMark Optoelectronics, VPEC, FOCI and 4908 前鼎 hit limit-down on Oct 13, and by Oct 16 Lumentum was around $849, about 26% below its 52-week high.
Third, every upstream demand number moved up in the same week: on Oct 15 TSMC raised its 2026 USD revenue growth outlook to about 44% and guided Q4 to $52.3–54.3B; ASML said planned 2027–28 supply cannot fully meet demand; TrendForce now sees 2027 capex at the nine largest cloud providers above $1.5T.
One side says money is short; the other says supply is short. STT's view: this week's drop was about funding cost, not orders. Through 2027, optical shipments are still set by capacity, and the funding bottleneck will only reach shipments through 2027 capex guidance.
